Baby Calendar was created by two scientists based in regional Queensland to help Australian parents navigate the responsiblities of becoming a parent.
Who we are
Dr. Jac Davis
Child Psychology Researcher
Dr. Jac Davis is a mum, and has a PhD in developmental psychology from Cambridge University with an extensive record of research in scientific journals. Her work has taken her to some of the most remote parts of the world, working with children in Europe, Australia, the South Pacific, and the Amazon delta to understand how children learn and grow over their lives
Jac specialises in converting real world child behaviour into mathematical models that can be easily understood. This passion has led her to become one of the most highly cited authors in the science of Human Behavioural Ecology, and she passionately believes in the power of science and technology to improve the lives of parents.
Dr. Jegar Pitchforth
Software Engineer
Dr. Jegar Pitchforth is a dad, and has led innovative technological transformations to create real-world change for over a decade. His PhD work explored how to ensure models tell the truth, and he used this research to improve Next Generation Sequencing algorithms in the fight against HIV globally. He has since worked with some of the world's biggest tech companies, and developed systems for organisations in agriculture, housing, and women's reproductive health.
He believes that technology should be built to immediately improve the lives of people, and works towards a world where we can all live our lives to their full potential. He is now a permaculture farmer, splitting his time between computer screens and cleaning out chickens or tending to fruit trees.
Our Story
We have been together for most of our lives, and we were married near Byron Bay in 2018. We moved back to Australia from Amsterdam in 2021 thanks to the COVID epidemic, which cut us off from our family and friends without warning. We arrived back in the country in early 2021 to an Australia with zero cases and no lockdowns.
We went on a self-supported cycling trip from Sydney to Brisbane, and on the way we got our positive pregnancy test. It was so exciting, but as new parents arriving in a country after a decade abroad we had no doctors in place, or support networks to guide us. Our son was born just as the epidemic caused lockdowns in our home town of Brisbane, forcing classes online and cancelling official parents groups. We were on our own to remember everything required of us, and staying on top of health was a constant challenge.
We're now grateful to be parents to a beautiful, healthy boy who loves swords and swimming. Once we were able to catch our breath, we looked at our own calendar and realised how useful it would be to other parents who were also overwhelmed with responsiblities and maybe didn't have the support as parents used to get by default. We made it an SMS service so we could reach people in remote areas who don't have data connections.
Our mission is to create the world we want our son to inherit, and part of that journey is to build the digital tools that allow Australian parents to have the stress-free, healthy pregnancy we all deserve.
